Abstract

In the context of smart cities, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has sped up the evolution of such cities with the attempt of making them more sustainable, efficient, and life quality. The advances in AI implementation are only matched by incomplete understanding of the public’s perceptions regarding its role in smart city projects related to mobility, environment, and education. To address this gap, this study uses a quantitative survey of 112 respondents that are analyzed using two way ANOVA to assess the differences between two gender and one age dependent groups. There are significant demographic differences revealed, where female and younger participants hold moreily AI will impact positively in such areas as traffic management, energy efficiency, but overall there is widespread perception that AI is very important. Results show that there is the need for the development of inclusive, participatory urban AI practices that include what society demands and the ethical element. This study suggests policy makers and urban planners how to put AI to work more for equity and sustainability than just for efficiency.
