The physiological adaptational changes that the body undergoes during pregnancy can affect the respiratory system. First-trimester alterations encompass increased minute ventilation, increased tidal volume, and a rise in respiratory rate. Hormonal and metabolic changes can lead to pathophysiologic alterations in respiratory diseases.
